Company Overview
Elektro Vroomen (Pty) Ltd. was established on the 1st June 1959 as an electrical wholesaling company. Prior to this, the company was involved in electrical contracting and reticulation. The company consists of branches in Bloemfontein, Kimberley and in Upington, with a pre-packing branch operating under the name “Homeglow” also situated in Bloemfontein.
The company currently employs in excess of 100 employees, many of whom are with the company for 30 years and longer. A large and diversified range of electrical equipment and lighting is carried at all branches, ranging from the normal domestic electrical accessories to underground cable, switchgear, motors, test equipment, domestic and industrial lighting and specialised industrial components.
A new lighting showroom has recently been completed, adjacent to the Bloemfontein Branch, as well as extensive changes to the Kimberley Branch premises. Our Upington Branch opened in 2005, and is also expanding rapidly.
The company has shown a steady growth over the years, and we see this trend continuing well into the future. Our major customers are the municipalities, Promat, the mines in the Northern Cape area, Co-ops, Eskom, the contracting fraternity as well as the D.I.Y. customer. The turnover is fairly evenly spread amongst these, and we are therefore not overly exposed to market fluctuations in any one particular area. We cover the Free State, Northern Cape and Lesotho primarily, but we do have many customers outside these areas.
We are members of ElectroBase, a group of independent electrical wholesalers, and this group has also had a major impact on the company.
The company was started by Serf Vroomen in 1959, and is currently owned by his son, Fred Vroomen. The branches are run by Joggie Lombaard in Bloemfontein, Manie Lombaard in Kimberley, Danie Bothma in Upington and Mike Vroomen at the Lighting Department.
